Mrs. Marian Hopkins Cathcart, 85, formerly of Concord, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 at her home and was reunited with her husband of 60 years, Bonnie Lee Cathcart, Jr. in the Kingdom of Heaven.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, September 24, 2012 at Bethel Bear Creek United Church of Christ Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Marvin Goodnight will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 pm, Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Lady's Funeral Home.
Marian was born on April 21, 1927 in Cabarrus County. She was the daughter of the late Ray Oney Hopkins and Laura Penninger Hopkins. Mrs. Cathcart retired as the manager of her family business, Dale Ray Fabrics. She had developed a true relationship with her customers. She attended Pfeiffer University and was a member of the Maranatha Worship Center of Concord. She was "a woman ahead of her time -- balancing both a family and a career."
Marian will be deeply missed by her family, friends and loved ones, but the brightness of her life will continue to shine in the legacy that she has left behind: a uniting of her deep faith and values with her devotion to family and a true American entrepreneurial spirit.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant daughters and a grandson, Matthew Cathcart.
Mrs. Cathcart is survived by her daughter, Billie Ann McCaskill and husband John of Greenville, SC; sons, Dale Cathcart and wife Ellen of Kannapolis and David Cathcart and wife Virginia of Lynchburg , VA; five grandchildren, Julie Anne Locatis, Jennie Lee Ambrose, Capt. Jonathan P. Rosamond and David Jason Cathcart; two great grandchildren, Ava Grace Ambrose and Nicholas James Locatis.
