Mr. Marshall Bryan Hamby, 90, a resident of Brian Center Health and Retirement in Concord, and formerly of East 20th Street in Kannapolis, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at the Brian Center. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Curtis Parker and the Rev. Ralph Robinette will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Brenda Edwards, 506 East 20th Street, Kannapolis. Born January 12, 1913, in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Martin Hamby and the late Rebecca Spears Hamby. Mr. Hamby retired several years ago from Cannon Mills where he was superintendent of transportation. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and was active in the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Hamby was a former member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church where he was Sunday School superintendent, secretary and teacher, and served as church treasurer and a member of the official board. He was also a former member of the Kannapolis Camp of Gideons International. His wife, Dollie Taylor Hamby, preceded him in death on April 30, 1978. Survivors include a son, James E. Hamby and his wife, Ann F. Hamby of Mebane; two daughters, Anna H. Binkley and her husband, Kenneth Binkley, Jr. of Winston Salem, Brenda H. Edwards and her husband, Bruce Edwards of Kannapolis; one brother, Calvin Hamby and his wife, Sarah, of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
