Martha Jane Caton

Mrs. Martha Jane Braswell Caton, 70, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Epworth United Methodist Church. Dr. Glenn Myers will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 pm, Saturday at the church prior to the service .

Mrs. Caton was born on February 25, 1942 in Banner Elk. She was the daughter of the late Frank Herman Braswell and Bonnie Benfield Braswell. Martha loved teaching and taught Special Education for twentysix years in four different states (NY, AZ, IN and IL). She was a passionate and gifted teacher and her students all loved her. She enjoyed history, travel, gardening and antiques. After retiring, she turned her interest to antiques and collectibles into a successful business searching for items from NC to Canada. Her travels involved vacations with her children and granddaughters throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She continued to travel until very recently including a trip to Italy during chemotherapy and a beach trip with immediate family.

Mrs. Caton is survived by her husband of 52 years, Franklin A. Caton; daughters, Angela Tuomy and husband Erik of Las Vegas, NV and Annette Caton and husband John Hickey of McHenry, IL; sisters Franke Cashwell and husband Barney of mt. Airy, Brenda Braswell of Prince George, VA and Betsy Price and husband Jack of Colonial Heights, VA; brother, Frank Braswell, Jr. and wife Karen of Concord; granddaughters, Alexis Tuomy and Emilee Tuomy both of Las Vegas.
