Martin Luther Griffin's Obituary
Martin Luther Griffin, 91, of Kannapolis, died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at CMC-Northeast.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Judy White, the Rev. Erin Grot Yow and the Rev. Sarah Weaver will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted DAV Chapter 27.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born July 7, 1916 in Lancaster County, SC, Mr. Griffin was the son of the late Joseph W. Griffin and Ida Elizabeth Ashley Griffin. He retired in 1980 as a divisional manager with Belk at Carolina Mall. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. During his military service, he received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart.
Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Patterson Griffin, who died October 25, 1997.
Survivors include his daughter, Marsha Griffin of Sylva; sister, Dorcas Helms of Fort Mill, SC; brother, John Hunter Griffin of Fort Mill, SC; granddaughter, Angelia Swink of Atlanta, GA; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
