Mary Clontz Austin

Mrs. Mary Edith Clontz Austin, 94, formerly of Fisher Street, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, following a brief illness. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Hubbard will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Austin was born February 27, 1917 in Cabarrus County. She was the daughter of the late John Baxter Clontz and Ollie Jane Helms Clontz. She retired in 1979 after 40 years of employment from Cannon Mills Plant 1 where she worked as a weaver in the #1 weave room. She was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Austin, Jr. in 1987; five brothers, Grady, Barker, Bridger, Donald and J.C. Clontz; and three sisters, Kathleen Carpenter, Joyce Russell and Betty Thomas. Mrs. Austin is survived by three daughters, Mary Ellen Moore of Atlanta, GA, Ann Drew of Cummings, GA, Brenda A. Ervin and husband, Ronald of China Grove; three sons, Robert Lynn Austin and wife, Beverly of Lawrenceville, GA, James Glenn Austin and wife, Elizabeth of Richardson, TX and Richard Gwaltney of Cummings, GA;two sisters, Chattie Wilson of Kannapolis and Jerrie Hasty of Monroe; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Brookdale Baptist Church, Women on Mission, 2511 S. Ridge Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
