Mrs. Mary Brooks Dover, 85, of 903 N. Chapel Street, Landis, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2003, at South China Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Derald Adams will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. At other times they will be at the residence. Born May 18, 1918, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Warren P. Brooks and the late Annie Laura Smith Brooks. Mrs. Dover was a homemaker and previously worked in the sewing room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. She had lived in this area since 1942 and was a member of South China Grove Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the WMU. She had three goals in life, to be a good wife, mother and Christian, and she far exceeded each and every goal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jessie Claude Dover, Sr., on May 8, 2003; a son, Jesse C. Dover, Jr., on April 19, 2001; two sisters, Florice E. Sims and Gladys I. Clark Smith; and a brother, Walter W. Brooks. Survivors include two daughters, Janeva "Jan" Sides and her husband, Ronnie, of Kannapolis and Cherry Lewis of Landis; a son, Calvin Dover and his wife, Marlene, of China Grove; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to South China Grove Baptist Church, 501 Haney Street, China Grove, NC 28023.
