Mary Elsie Hatley

January 20, 1915 — July 12, 2012

Mrs. Mary "Elsie" Hall Hatley, 97, formerly of Brantley Road, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the home of her daughter.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. William "Bill" Jolley will officate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home, 904 Nance Street, Kannapolis.

Mrs. Hatley was born January 20, 1915 in Altavista, VA. She was a daughter of the late Leverett Hall and Elizabeth Mason Hall. Elsie worked at Cannon Mills for 55 years in the Sheet Department and then in the Washcloth Department as a trimmer until her retirement. She was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert "Pete" Pierson Hatley, in November 1985; six sisters, Ruby Link, Thelma Hagler, Dorothy Williams, Guynelle Shaw, Myrtle Roland and Minnie Payne; four brothers, Charlie Hall, Matthew Hall, George Hall and Luke Hall; grandson, Tony E. Sherrill and great granddaughter, Heather M. Sherrill.

Mrs. Hatley is survived by her daughter, Carolyn H. Sherrill and husband Tony of Kannapolis; granddaughter, Faye D. Sherrill; and great grandson, Tony Dart.
