Mary Katherine "Kitty" O'Brien Shaver

Mrs. Mary Katherine “Kitty” O'Brien Shaver, 98, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Monday, March 6, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Alvaro Riquelme, C.Ss.R. will officiate. She will be laid to rest following the service at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery in Concord.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Sunday, March 5, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Activity Center.

Mrs. Shaver was born November 9, 1918 in Danville, VA. She was the daughter of the late Richard O'Brien and Mary Agnes Binns O'Brien. Kitty was a graduate of Spencer High School in NC and attended business school in Richmond, VA. She was Yeoman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1945. Her first job was at the Biltmore Dairy Bar, then an accountant for Montgomery Ward. Kitty then worked in data processing at Cannon Mills before retiring. Kitty was active in her church, the schools her children attended, and worked as a judge at the voting polls at Royal Oaks. After retiring, she was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Bowling League. She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, George and Richard J. O’Brien; sister, Frances Shaver; grandson, Robert Tice; son in-law, Andrew Seamon, Jr.; and daughter in-law, Donna Shaver.

Mrs. Shaver is survived by her husband of 71 years Edwin Earl Shaver; nine children, Joanne “Jody” McManus and husband Adrian of Salisbury, Earlene Seamone of Mt. Pleasant, Rachel Tice and husband Larry of Clayton, Ellen Nix and husband Gary of Concord, Elayne Perry and husband Ric of Kannapolis, Edwin Shaver, II and wife Brenda of Concord, Karen Yvonne Faggart and husband John of Rockwell, Louis Shaver and wife Joan of St. Augustine, FL, and William Shaver of Kannapolis; 26 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren (with more on the way); and brother, William “Bill” O’Brien of Virginia.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 108 St. Joseph Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
