Mary Gibson Lee

Mary Gibson "Gibby" Lee, 81, of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Bethpage United Methodist Church in Kannapolis immediately followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. Rev. Gary McDonald, Mr. Duane Melton and Mr. Barry Hawthorne will officiate, with special recognition by the Atrium Health Nurses Honor Guard.

Gibby was born October 13, 1940 in Concord to Ralph and Viola Mae Johnston. Gibby married Pete Allen and they gave birth to two children, Marty Lee and Crystal Lynn Allen. Sadly, Pete passed away at a young age. Gibby later met James K Lee and they married on August 28, 1965. They gave birth to two children, Connie Michelle and James Lee Jr. She is preceded in death by both her husbands, Pete Allen and James Lee; and her son Marty Allen.

Survivors include her daughters, Crystal Houston and husband, Dale, of Mount Ulla; Michelle Bentley and husband, Joe, of Charlotte; son James Lee, Jr and wife, Lisa, of Angleton, TX; grandchildren, Heath Houston and wife Wendy of Kannapolis, Blake Houston and spouse Braeden of China Grove, Hannah Richardson and husband Dylan of China Grove, Taylor Blackman and husband Alex of Kannapolis, Burgin, Keller, and Andy Bentley of Charlotte, Kiser and Graylen Lee of El Paso, TX; and great grandchildren; William Blackman, Brody and Blakelyn Houston, and McKinley Richardson.

Gibby spent her life in Kannapolis where she devoted herself to her family, Bethpage United Methodist Church, and as a nurse at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital / Carolina Medical Center Northeast. Gibby was also a cancer survivor and an above-the-knee amputee. After losing her leg, she attended UNC-Charlotte where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. At the time of her retirement from the hospital, she was serving as the Director of the Cardiac, Renal, and Intensive Care units.
