Mary Lee Oliver Gainey

Mrs. Mary Lee Oliver Gainey, age 86, formerly of Eastway Avenue, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Avante of Concord after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Funeral services for Mrs. Gainey will be conducted at 2:30 pm Sunday, November 28, 2010, in Crosspointe Baptist Church, Concord. The Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the church Sunday from 1 until 2:30 pm prior to the service. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, on February 20, 1924, she was a daughter of the late James Dean Oliver and Bessie Mae Gardner Oliver. She was a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church and retired from the Sheet Department of Cannon Mills. Mrs. Gainey was preceded in death by her husband, Colie L. Gainey on March 13, 1997, a son Jerry Ray Gainey on August 4, 2006 and brothers, Luther Raymond and Bruce Oliver. Survivors include a daughter, Grace G. Hamilton and husband Larry of Kannapolis and a son Charles Coleman Gainey and wife Jeannie of Salisbury, and sisters, Viola Oliver Sims and Hattie Mae Oliver Hipps, both of South Carolina; grandchildren, Annette and Teresa Hamilton, Jackie, Scottie and Jerry Lynn Gainey, Kevin Gainey and Kristi Gainey Schultz and a number of great grandchildren. The family extends a special "Thank You" to the entire staff of Avante of Concord for their love and exceptional care given to their mother. Memorials for Mrs. Gainey may be made to the building fund at: Crosspointe Baptist Church, 1175 Crosspointe Drive, Concord, NC 28025.
