Melvena Carol "Millie" Bonds

Melvena Carol Bonds 81, formerly of Kannapolis, passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 13, 2015, while under hospice care at Four Seasons ALF in Sanford, FL.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Felts officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 and join together in the chapel for the service at 2:00. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Born in Cabarrus County on January 25, 1934, she was the daughter of Joseph Doyle Bonds and Onnie Owen Bonds of Kannapolis. She graduated from J. W. Cannon High School class of 1952. She worked in the wash cloth department of Fieldcrest for many years before retiring in 1997 and moving to Orlando, Florida in 2002. She was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bonds is survived by three children, Michael L. Spry of Colorado, Edward H. Slawson and wife Karen of McDonough, GA, and Lisa C. Slawson Hess of Kannapolis; sister, Maxine Beck and husband James of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, U.S. Army Sgt. Carrie Moore of Fayetteville and Nicholas D Slawson of Westerville,OH; and three great grandchildren, Trisha Slawson, Jadon Moore and Peyton Moore.

"Millie" discovered late in life that she had a real talent for art. She enjoyed painting landscapes and seascapes which she presented to her special friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Shady Brook Baptist Church, 1009 Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
