Mr. Melvin Charles Gillespie, 75, died at the home of his granddaughter, Angie Upright, of 1406 Venus Street, on Monday, September 10, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff Upright will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home on Venus Street. Mr. Gillespie was born on June 15, 1932 in Gold Hill,NC. He was a son of Frank Henry Gillespie and Mary Agnes Barnhardt Gillespie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He retired from Bell South-Western Electric as a maintenance supervisor with 30 years of service. He was also a lifetime member of Telecommunications Pioneers of America. Mr. Gillespie is survived by his son, Breck Gillespie of Concord; two daughters, Lori Gillespie Upright and Cindy Gillespie Pait, both of Kannapolis; sister, Betty Sethna of Concord; seven grandchildren, Angie Upright, Tiffany Wilson, Samantha Soden, B.J. Upright, Dusty Upright, Savannah Gillespie and Devyn Gillespie and seven great grandchildren. Memorials may be donated to the American Legion, 165 Wilshire Avenue SW, Concord, NC 28025 in memory of Mr. Gillespie.
