Merle Gantt Horne

Mrs. Merle Gantt Horne, 89, a resident of First Assembly Living Center, Concord, and formerly of Arlington Avenue, Kannapolis, died Friday, August 7, 2009, at Five Oaks Manor in Concord. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chuck Halipilias will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born September 22, 1919 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse D. Gantt and Odessa Lee Milton Gantt. She retired after 35 years of employment from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills, Plant No. 1. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church. Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by her husband, John William Horne, who died August 25, 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Linda H. Critz and husband Mike of Charlotte, Donna H. Ledford and husband Cecil of Kannapolis; two brothers, Ward Gantt of Granbury, TX and Jimmie L. Gantt of Catawba; three grandchildren, Gina Daniels, Todd Childers and Risa Critz Polk; five great-grandchildren, James Michael Polk, Stuart Lane Polk, Brett Thomas Polk, Todd William Childers II and Beth Anne Childers.
