Mrs. Mildred Louise Blackwelder Collins, 88, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Carolinas Healthcare System - NorthEast in Concord.
A funeral service is scheduled at 4:00 pm Friday, October 16, 2015, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tom Whidden will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Lady’s Funeral Home..
Mrs. Collins was born October 10, 1927 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late George T. Blackwelder and Eunice Carter Blackwelder. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Concord First Assembly where she was also a member of The Senior’s Group and The Sassy Ladies. Mildred enjoyed word search puzzles and loved her roses. She also liked NASCAR racing and UNC Basketball. Mildred loved and cared for her family as long as she was physically able. She was always concerned for each family member. You never entered her home without being offered something to eat and drink. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Surratt and the staff of Ardsley Internal Medicine for the care and support given to Mildred.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Collins, Sr. and 4 brothers, William, Boyd, Rudolph, and Bobby Blackwelder.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her three children, James F. “Buddy” Collins, Jr. and wife Martie, Jeffrey Lynn Collins and wife Tina and Rodger Dale Collins and wife Peggy, all of Concord; brother, Donald R. Blackwelder and wife Lois of Gaston, SC; sister, Lois Marie Sheffield of Concord; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and her loyal schnauzer, Benji.
