Mildred Pauline Hill

January 20, 1921 — November 30, 2014

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Tucker Wentz Hill, 93, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Rev. Rick Felts will officiate.

Mrs. Hill was born January 20, 1921 in Mooresville. She was a daughter of the late Lon Robert Tucker and Ethel Florence Ragsdale Tucker. Mildred attended Mars Hill College and received her AA from Gardner-Webb College. Mildred went on to attend Stetson University where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education, as well as her Masters in Guidance and Counseling, specializing in Psychology. She enjoyed teaching and counseling children in the Volusia County School System in Florida for 29 years. She championed her husband’s ministry by coordinating church music programs and by playing piano and organ for weekly services and special occasions. She frequently spoke to women's organizations and civic and church groups. Mildred enjoyed planning and cooking large, elaborate meals for family and friends. She always had a loving smile for those around her and was much loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as “Mimi.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Rev. Merl Avery Wentz; second husband, Doc Henry Rickerson; third husband, Hulon Clive Hill; a daughter, Brenda Merle Mabray; son, Lon Avery “Chip” Wentz; and sister, Nevada A. Tucker.

Mrs. Hill is survived by two daughters, Sarah Wentz Cooper of Summerville, SC and Joy Wentz and husband Buford Crites of Palm Desert, CA; step-daughter, Hulene Dian Hill of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Kenneth Brett Mabray and wife Melinda of Huntington Beach, CA, Christopher Scott Cooper and wife Amanda Leah of Summerville, SC and Cody Elizabeth Rosenthal and husband David Cutler of Lincoln City, OR; step-grandson, Daren Starnes and wife Judy; and two great grandchildren, James Robert Cooper and Nicholas Jacob Cooper, both of Summerville, SC.
