Mildred Swink Triece

Mildred Lorene Swink Triece, formerly of Kannapolis, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the home of her son, Dan Triece, 1228 NC Highway 705, Seagrove, with whom she resided for the past four years. She was in declining health for four years and seriously ill for four months. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Center Grove Lutheran Church. The Rev. Diane Wales and the Rev. Matthew Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. At other times, they will make headquarters at the home of her daughter, Sharon Triece Vanpelt, 6971 Tuckaseegee Road, Kannapolis. Born June 14, 1927 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Willis Franklin Swink and Mary Melinda Swicegood Swink. Mildred was a certified church musician in the Lutheran Church of America. She served for 40 years as an organist and choir director at several churches, including St. Enoch Lutheran Church, Center Grove Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis and Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. She was instrumental in introducing handbell music into this area. After retiring from service to the church, she enjoyed sharing her love of flowers and gardening through her work at Mills Garden Center in Kannapolis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray "Buck" Triece; and four brothers, Lester Swink, Dick Swink, Carl Swink and Harvey Swink. She is survived by her family, Dan Triece and Jim Carraher; Sharon, Harry, Ben and David Vanpelt; Lois and Dice Eagle; Doris and Harold Childers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
