Myrtie Morgan

On Monday, September 15, 2014, Myrtie Clarke Morgan departed this earthly life at 90 years old. Her legacy is a record of achievement touching her family, friends and community.

Mrs. Morgan was born on November 12, 1923, in Grove Hill, Ala., the sixth of 14 children to the late John Brackett Clarke and Flossie Smith Clarke.

While working at Brookley Army Air Field in Mobile, Ala., Mrs. Morgan met and fell in love with Henry Clay Morgan, who precedes her in death. They were married May 7, 1944.

As a young widow, she committed her life to her two children and fulfilling the family dream of a college education for both of them. She re-entered the workforce as a civil servant at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. where she retired.

A devoted grandmother, she moved to Kannapolis to spend time with her grandchildren and was employed as Financial Director at the Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Morgan was predeceased by her four brothers, Cecil, John, Curry, and Graham; and four sisters, Emma Jean, Retha, Louise and Marie.

She is survived by her two children, Larry Morgan and wife, Nancy, of Alexander City, Ala. and Judy Morgan Dayvault and husband Tom of High Point. Mrs. Morgan was grandmother to Joshua Morgan Dayvault (Kristin), Lauren Dayvault Estep (Derek) and Kevin Kay Morgan. Her great-grandchildren are Adaline and Atticus Dayvault and Morgan Estep. She is also survived by two brothers, Percy Clarke and Murphy Clarke; and three sisters, Eloise Wilson, Catherine Harrell and Margie Monroy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Morgan will be remembered by all who knew her for her true Southern hospitality and for her unwavering love and devotion to her faith, family and friends. As a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala. and First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, she lived her faith as a Sunday school teacher and mentor. In her new hometown of Kannapolis, she became active in community and church endeavors and was loved and respected by everyone.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday at First Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Tom Cabaniss will officiate.

The family will receive friends at 1 to 2:15 pm Thursday in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday at 10:00 am.

Flowers and remembrances may be sent to Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of the High Point Regional Health, the Hayworth Cancer Center and the Hospice Home of High Point.
