Naomi Ruth Adams Burns

Mrs. Naomi Ruth Adams Burns, 86, formerly of Greenview, WV, passed peacefully on to her Heavenly home Monday, August 28, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Concord, NC.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, September 1, 2017, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Rev. Harley Egnor will officiate. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel of Hope in Beckley, WV.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 pm Friday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burns was born May 18, 1931 in Itman, WV. She was a daughter of the late Henry Harrison Adams and Anna Jane Cecil Adams. Mrs. Burns attended Coal Valley Freewill Baptist Church and was active in Senior Citizens before moving to Concord. As a young woman, Ruth served as a Girl Scout leader for Clothier Troop, was a member of Rebecca Lodge in Craigsville, WV, and directed Vacation Bible School.

Her family remembers countless summers spent at their camp on Summersville Lake, her immense joy at being on the beach, and the beauty of her alto voice sharing hymns of praise or singing “You are my Sunshine” to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Jackson Burns; brother, Harold Lloyd Adams; and son-in-law, Freddie Glenn Massey.

Mrs. Burns is survived by daughter, Ruth Ann Massey; three sisters, Violet Baldwin of Ghent, WV, Ruby Simms and husband Mont and Marie Crowder, both of Roanoke, VA; granddaughter, Jennifer Massey Brayley and husband Chris of Concord, NC; grandson, Thomas Glenn Massey and wife Amy of Harrisburg, NC; five great grandchildren, Jackson Carter Brayley, John Christian Brayley, Sydney Grace Massey, Nathan Thomas Massey and Julia Catherine Brayley; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
