Nellie Compton Thompson

June 23, 1912 — March 16, 2004

Mrs. Nellie Compton Thompson, 91, a resident of Liberty Commons in Salisbury and formerly of Lucky Drive in Concord, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 16, 2004. A service to celebrate her life will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Vera Hill, 2908 Walter Drive, Concord. Born June 23, 1912, in Madison County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Knox Compton and Orrie Clark Compton. Mrs. Thompson retired in 1974 from the sewing room of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Her husband, Jasper Smith Thompson, preceded her in death on June 13, 1975. Survivors include two daughters, Vera Thompson Hill and her husband, Alvin, of Concord and Sandra Thompson Roseman and her husband, Norman, of Salisbury; one son, Harold Thompson and his wife, Evelyn, of Mooresville; two sisters, Dorothy Compton Kidd of Kannapolis and Carolyn Compton Corriher of Landis; four grandchildren, Jody Wyatt of Concord, Kale Thompson of Huntersville, Tena Campbell of Albemarle and Chris Roseman of Concord; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
