Ona Helms Ross

Mrs. Ona Helms Ross, 102, a resident of Avante at Concord and formerly of Kannapolis and Hickory, died Monday, December 13, 2004, at the nursing center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Tanner and the Rev. John Haas will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Bethlehem, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. Born February 21, 1902, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Lexie Helms and Corinna Biggers Helms. She was a beauty operator for many years and previously taught elementary school. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ross; three sisters, Ila Austin, Ruth Overcash and Annie Maude Pope; and a brother, F. H. Helms. Survivors include her brother, J. W. Helms of Kannapolis; and a sister, Hazel Robertson of Kannapolis.
