Mrs. Ora Hatley Gryder, 91, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Five Oaks Manor in Concord.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 pm Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Pete Overcash will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 pm Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service.

Mrs. Gryder was born December 25, 1924 in Stanly County. She was a daughter of the late Junie Washington. Hatley and Alice Mae Earnhardt Hatley. She retired from the set department of Cannon Mills where she worked for over 24 years.

She started singing solos in grammar school and joined her church choir at an early age. She also sang with the Singing Saints at Forest Hills United Methodist Church for eight years. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church in Kannapolis, where she was active in the UMU, Sunday school and the Jet Set.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Shelton Gryder; and a son Jeffrey L. Gryder.

Mrs. Gryder is survived by a son, James Bradley Gryder and wife Dawn of Landis; daughter-in-law, Sheila Gryder of China Grove; two grandsons, Matthew Gryder and wife Heather and Clint Gryder; three great grandchildren, Rhett Gryder, Sarah Gryder and Emily Gryder; and one sister, Rosenell Cress of Concord.

The family requests that memorials be made to Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 1100 Jackson Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to First United Methodist Church of Landis, 209 East Mills Street, Landis, NC 28088.
