Oscar L. Overcash, Sr., 94, of Kannapolis, slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord after months of declining health on August 27, 2016, at Morningside of Concord.
He was born April 29, 1922, the son of the late Lester Overcash and Estelle Overcash Tilley. He had a magnetic and charming personality with a sense of humor and laugh that lit up any room. He was a lifelong salesman, from his early days as a boy selling peanuts at Carolina League baseball games for a nickel, to selling shoes and ultimately serving as District Sales Manager over North and South Carolina for more than 30 years for the Knapp Shoe Company until his retirement in 1987. He served his country honorably in active combat during WWII in the U.S. Army, Troop D, 5th Cavalry Division. He was also a “ringer” who in good health loved to play horseshoes, and he won the North Carolina Senior Games Horseshoe Tournament for his age group in 2001.
In addition to his parents, and sister Irene Overcash, Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 54 years, Charlotte Brady Overcash.
He is survived by his second wife, Margaret Reid Overcash of Kannapolis; son, Oscar L. Overcash, Jr. (Teri) of Concord; daughter, Kathy Overcash Daniels of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Philip Overcash (Shannon) of Scottsdale, Arizona, David Overcash of Concord, John Daniels of Greer, South Carolina, Andy Daniels (Lauren) of Easley, South Carolina, Lisa Overcash Leach (Ryan) of Concord, Kristi Daniels McIntyre (Ryan) of Greenville, South Carolina, and Laura Ashlee Daniels Taylor (Don) of Columbus, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Jenasis Daniels, Ella Daniels, Tyler Leach, Dylan Overcash, Brady McIntyre, Gage Overcash, Gavin Overcash, Eli Daniels, and Shiloh McIntyre (with two on the way); brother, Jack Overcash (Geraldine) of Goldsboro; and sister, Louise Franks of Virginia Beach, VA.
All who knew and loved Oscar will miss him beyond measure, and will forever feel his presence.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 2- 3:30 pm at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church with a memorial service at 3:30 pm at the church. Rev. Phil Goble, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
