Ms. Pauline “Polly” Basinger Henley, 88, of Chesapeake, VA (formerly of Norfolk), passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital following a brief illness.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, June 3, 2016, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 pm Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Ms. Henley was born September 12, 1927 in Rowan County. She was the daughter of the late John Jeremiah Basinger and May Lillian Leazer Basinger. Polly modeled for a number of years before marrying, which inspired in her a unique sense of style and elegance that lasted throughout her lifetime. Following her marriage and the birth of her sons, Polly returned to work and spent most of her career in mortgage banking. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Norfolk.
Ms. Henley is preceded in death by long-time friend, Fred Coker of Norfolk; and a grandson, David Henley of Roanoke.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bruce M. Henley of Hammondsport, NY (Leann) and David A. Henley of Currituck, NC (Barbara); grandson, Nicholas Henley of Roanoke; and granddaughter, Haley H. Greiner (Dave) of Chesapeake. Polly is also survived by five great-grandchildren: David’s daughter, Zoe, and son, Logan; Nick’s son, Azrael, all of Roanoke; along with Haley’s sons, David and Christian Greiner of Chesapeake; her brother, John J. Basinger, Jr.; and nephew, Mike Basinger (Renee) all of Sylacauga, AL.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
