Rachel Lisk Sikes

Mrs. Rachel Lisk Sikes, 89, of 184 Ponderosa Circle, Mooresville and formerly of Hemlock Avenue in Kannapolis, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Genesis ElderCare in Mooresville. A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The Rev. Dave Cash will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born September 1, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Sikes was the daughter of the late Elma Lisk and Annie Lipe Lisk. She retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Owen Sikes, who died October 26, 2002; and two sisters, Helen Starling of Albemarle and Louise Chappel of Candor. Survivors include a son, Wayne Sikes and wife, Sybil, of Laurinburg; a daughter, Taska Sikes Smith and husband, Jack, of Mooresville; one sister, Margaret Pope of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Mark Smith, Jason Smith, Kellie Hayes, Greg Sikes, Jeff Sikes and Lisa Sheppard; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
