Ralph Homer Smith

Mr. Ralph Homer Smith, 99, of Kannapolis, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Five Oaks Nursing Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2002, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. John Haas and the Rev. Billy Rintz will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Born June 1, 1903, in Davies County, Indiana, he was a son of the late Homer Smith and the late Martha Bennington Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired elementary teacher. He taught 33 years in the Washington, Indiana School System and 10 years in the Volusia County, Florida School System. He had lived in this area since 1984 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a Sunday School teacher for 70 years. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Norma Sidebottom and Mary Susan Smith. Survivors include his wife, Treva Kettery Smith; a daughter, Janice Hagemeir of Phoenix, AZ; three sons, Larry Smith of Kannapolis, Ralph Homer Smith II of Marietta, GA, Bill Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Gideons International, PO Box 52, Kannapolis, NC 28082.
