Ray Coggins

September 5, 1912 — June 3, 2005

Mr. Ray Coggins, 92 a resident of the Brian Center in Concord and formerly of Little Texas Road, Kannapolis, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center, following two years of declining. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Center Grove Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Martin and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. At other times they will be at the home of his son, Lonnie Coggins, 5201 Century Drive, Kannapolis. Born September 5, 1912, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late James Pleasant Coggins and Ada Bost Coggins. In December 1919, he moved from the Bethel Community in Cabarrus County to Kannapolis and was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools. He retired several years ago from the No. 6 Weave Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. He was a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. His scouting activities included being inducted into the Order of the Arrow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Coggins; two brothers, W. G. Coggins and Roscoe "Rail Road" Coggins; and his twin sister, Faye Coggins. Survivors include his wife, Louise Winecoff Coggins; a son, Lonnie D. Coggins and his wife, Judy, of Kannapolis; a brother, Martin L. Coggins and his wife, Reba, of Kannapolis; and a grandson, Anthony Ray Coggins and his wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte. Memorials may be sent to Center Grove Lutheran Church, 1601 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
