Mr. Ray Milem, 92, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Darryl Evans will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 am Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church prior to the service.
Ray was born July 21, 1924 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late James Hansford Milem, Sr. and Verdie Riggs Milem. Ray served proudly in the U.S. Army with the 563rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery as an automatic weapons gunner during World War II. Ray retired from Cannon Mills, Swink Plant after 50 years of service. He is fonly remembered for his love of gardening, raising animals, woodworking projects and serving his family throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances Milem; three sons, Jim Milem and wife Karen of China Grove, Jerry Milem and wife Shirley of Salisbury and Joe Milem and wife Jackie of Kannapolis; daughter, Zeta Pittman of Charlotte; ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
