Mr. Ray Harold Morton, 78, of 3953 Rock Hill Church Road, Concord, died Sunday, October 20, 2002, at Avante of Concord. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Concord. Rev. Charles MacMurphy will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Carol Morton Workman, 1363 Yorkshire Place, NW, Concord. Mr. Morton was born March 11, 1924 in Cabarrus County. He was the son of the late Hoyle Alexander Morton and Matilda Gaskey Morton. He retired as a self-employed watch maker. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School in 1942 and the Spencer School of Watch Making in 1947. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morton was preceded in death by his first wife, Herlene Baucom Morton, on July 24, 1976. Mr. Morton is survived by his wife, Betty Sipe Morton; daughter, Carol Morton Workman and her husband, Charles Edward, of Concord; son, Donald Ray Morton of Concord; sister, Frances Morton McGill of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Bryan Earnhardt, Ashley Earnhardt, Steven Earnhardt, Heather Workman, and Renee Workman. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church 3780 Trinity Church Road, Concord, NC 28027.
