Reece Hunt Swing

Mr. Reece Hunt Swing, 91, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Avante at Concord.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Rogers Park Reformed Church. Pastor David Bitler and Pastor Mitch Thomas will officiate. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mr. Swing was born May 4, 1925 in Davidson County. He was a son of the late Roby Swing and Louise Beck Swing. He was employed as an admitting clerk at the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. Reece retired as a truck driver with Harris Teeter. In addition to Harris Teeter, Mr. Swing was employed by other trucking companies through the years. During that time, he was given the nickname of “Angel of the Highways” due to his kindness to people he came across broken down or stranded on the side of the road, even to the point of bringing them home and giving them shelter until they could get back on the road. He was a member of Rodgers Park Reformed Church. Reece enjoyed serving his community in various ways. He loved camping with his family and spending time at the beach and the lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Nancy Swing; three brothers, Beecher Swing, Foil Swing and Roland Swing; and one sister, Polly Newkirk.

Mr. Swing is survived by three daughters, Cathy J. Olson and husband Michael, Susan Swing Stirewalt and husband Keith, both of China Grove, and Martha S. Thomas and husband Doug of Kannapolis; four sisters, Nancy Andrus, Carolyn Honeycutt of High Point, Dee Smith of Seaford, DE, and Adena Wall of Lexington; six grandchildren, Christy Olson James and husband Tony, Jace Thomas and wife Lindsay, Mitch Thomas and wife Mica, Justin Stallings and fiancée Katie Hakes, Brittany Howard and husband Andrew and Jason Stirewalt and wife Kim; and twelve great grandchildren, Daniel, Carson, Olivia, Adella, Ezra, Hudson, Finley, Micaiah, Maize, Malachi, Shelby and Blay.
