Mr. Richard “Rudy” Brownell, 84, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, October 16, 2014, at First Wesleyan Church. Rev. Scott Wheeler will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Brownell was born April 8, 1930 in Denver, CO. The family moved to Washington State when he was young. He was a son of the late Ernest Daniel Brownell and Margaret Isabelle Harvey Brownell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean War. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, where he served faithfully in many different capacities. Rudy graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA and received his Master’s in Education from Appalachian State University and retired from the Kannapolis City Schools.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anita B. Swier.
Mr. Brownell is survived by his wife, Norma Gray Brownell; daughter, Iris B. Poston and husband David of Troutman; son, Alan Brownell and wife Elizabeth of Troutman; brother, Eugene “Dennis” Brownell of Yakima, WA; and three grandchildren, Victoria Anne Brownell, Alexandria Leigh Brownell and Aaron Grayson Brownell.
