Mr. Richard Conrad Gribble, 77, a resident of Trinity Oaks Retirement Center and formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Carolinas HealthCare System-NorthEast in Concord with family by his side. He had diabetes for 42 years and was seriously ill for two weeks.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Futterer of Kimball Lutheran Church will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of a sister, Susan Gribble Miller in Concord.
Richard was born Friday, November 29, 1940, at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, after the Traditional Thanksgiving. He was a son of the late Robert Lee Gribble and Mary Kathleen Ridenhour Gribble. He had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 14 and a half years service as a staff assistant and later Senior Engineer in Fire Protection and Security section of the Engineering Department. He spent 18 and a half years working in industrial property insurance with the Factory Mutual Engineering Association becoming a senior engineer in Electrical and Special Hazards.
He was a 1965 graduate of NC State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduating A.L. Brown High School in 1959, he worked a year in No.5 weave room of Cannon Mills Co. and in 1962 worked the summer in the sewing department of Cannon Mills for a college curriculum requirement.
He is the first of nine Gribble children to be deceased.
Mr. Gribble is survived by six brothers, Robert Lee Gribble, Jr., Charles Martin Gribble and wife Judy, John William Gribble and wife Barbara, James Davis Gribble and wife Lillian, Thomas Edward Gribble and wife Glenda and Joe Dallas Gribble and wife Elizabeth; two sisters, Mary Margaret Gribble McSwain and Susan Jane Gribble Miller; many nieces and nephews; and special friend for many years, Jean Query.
Richard was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
