Robert Lee Montgomery

December 28, 1930 — October 17, 2022

Mr. Robert Lee “Monty” Montgomery, 91, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 in Concord, North Carolina.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at First Baptist Church, located at 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 am on Saturday at the First Baptist Church.

Monty was born on December 28, 1930, in Johnson City, IL. In his younger days, he was an avid golfer and played most major courses, including Augusta National and the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. Among his family, he was known for his strong-willed disposition which was always accompanied by a joke and a smile - but never any form of backing down. He loved both his family and his community deeply as he was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis where he served as a deacon and was fondly known for handing out Tootsie Rolls to children on their way into church.

Monty was the owner of Southeastern Foam Products which was started in 1966 in Conyers, GA, where he was the driving force behind Southeastern Foam’s 13 manufacturing plants and 300 employees across the country. He was an active member of the community in Rockdale County, Georgia, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Education, Chairman Little League, Head of the Industrial Development, and President Chamber of Commerce. Monty also served as Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church while in Dunnellon, FL.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 72 years, Polly Belle Babcock Montgomery; three children, Debbie Arnold of Charlotte, Ross Montgomery alongside wife Bonnie Montgomery of Huntersville, and Mike Montgomery alongside wife Delynn Montgomery of Covington, GA; as well as 15 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

The love that Monty and Polly shared resulted in a family of 44 and is a testament of Monty’s hard work, love of family, and dedication to his faith.

Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
