Robert George Rodell

Mr. Robert George Rodell, 88, of Concord, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Horizon Bay Assisted Living Center in Concord. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, July 29, 2011, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Father Joseph Dionne, C.Ss.R will officiate. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery in Concord. Military honors will be rendered by the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mr. Rodell was born January 10, 1923 in Farmington, Iowa. He was the son of the late George Rodell and Josephine Kennedy Rodell. He retired from IBM, Inc. where he worked as a senior systems analyst. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 314 Infantry and received the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Rodell was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kannapolis, and more recently a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Concord. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a son Philip R. Rodell and a sister, Nedra Rodell Urban. Mr. Rodell is survived by his wife, Mary Arends Rodell; eight daughters, Pamela Swift, Susan Rodell, Donna Newsome and husband, Gregory and Karen White and husband, Michael all of NC, Joanne Einsmann and husband, Francis of VA, Barbara Gries and husband Michael, Rita Roberts and husband, George and Rosemary Tucker and husband, Gebhard all of NY; one sister, Eileen Mark of IL; two brothers, Gerald Rodell and wife, Jane of IL and Clement Rodell and wife, Patricia of UT; daughter-in-law UnCha Rodell of SC and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
