Roland Smith

Rev. G. Roland Smith, 83, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, March 3, 2014, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. Rev. Ernest Mullins and Rev. Harold Bumby will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born April 5, 1930 in Rowan County. He was a son of the late Millard Clayton Smith and Ollie Ashby Smith. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served during Korea and was a member of Poston-Perkins VFW Post 8989. He worked for Cannon Mills as a fixer in his early years and later retired from Life of Virginia as an insurance salesman. He was a minister at St. Paul Wesleyan in Gold Hill for 30 years and was a member of Gold Hill Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Gaddy Smith; brother, Delmer Smith, Harvey Smith and Mack Smith; and sister, Nellie Wright.

Mr. Smith is survived by daughter, Mary Adams; four grandchildren, Rex St. John, Mike St. John, Trina Szekley and Shelly Szekley; seven great grandchildren, Justin Beaver, Chris St. John, Amber Page, B.J. St. John, Nick St. John, Alec Szekley and Craig Szekley; six great-great grandchildren, Kenzie Beaver, Hayden Page, Blake Page, Brianna Page, Kailyn Page and Abigail Beaver; and many nieces and nephews.
