Royce Dalvin Jackson

March 11, 1943 — May 21, 2012

Mr. Royce Dalvin Jackson, 69, passed away after a recent period of illness Monday, May 21, 2012 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Taber will officiate. Interment will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2012 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Military honors will be provided by the Rowan County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:45 PM on Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service.

Mr. Jackson was born on March 11, 1943 in Louisville, KY. He was the son of the late Dalvin Jackson and Ruth Benson Jackson. Mr. Jackson retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after twenty-two years of service in the Air Search and Rescue Unit of the US Coast Guard.

He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 146. Royce enjoyed music, coins and tinkering in his workshop. He was an avid lover of animals, especially cats. Royce received a double major from Catawba College where he was an honor graduate. His majors included Accounting and Business Administration and he had a minor in Religion and Philosophy. Royce was raised in The Masonic Orphanage in Louisville, KY.

Royce was a very intelligent and inquisitive person. He was kind and considerate and enjoyed reading. Mr. Jackson had a very dry sense of humor. Royce was very mechanically inclined. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. He was an avid major league baseball fan. He especially loved the Atlanta Braves. Punctuality was a must for him, and he expected others to be on time. He was very supportive of his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald V. Jackson and Rodin F. Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years, Linda Gail Davis Jackson; daughter, Monica J. Foster and husband Bryan of Landis. His other daughters, Teresa Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO and Patty Alvarado and husband, Mark of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Janice Henderson and husband Earl of Sikeston, MO and Delores Noller and husband Paul of Louisville, KY; sisters-in-law, Gloria Jackson of Sikeston, MO and Patricia Judd of Hagerstown, MD; brother, Marlin Jackson and wife Carol of Louisville, KY; half-brother, J. R. Radcliff and wife Claudia of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
