The Rev. Rufus Leroy Lambert, 86, of 505 North Enochville Ave., Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Northeast Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, Concord, with the Revs. James Ward and Jesse Overcash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will lie in state from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. Lady's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Lady's Funeral Home. Mr. Lambert was born July 16, 1918 in Cabarrus County. He was the pastor and founder in 1962 of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church on Crestmont Drive, Concord. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lambert and Alice Dulin Lambert. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Lambert; two daughters, Jewell Mills and husband James of Kannapolis, and Loretta Callicutt of the home; a son, Wayne Lambert and wife Karen of Kannapolis; two sisters, Ethel Greene of Chicago, and Lula Helms of Concord; two brothers, the Rev. James Lambert of Morganton, and Sam Lambert of Mooresville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, c/o 2305 McGee St., Kannapolis, NC in memory of the Rev. Lambert.
