Mrs. Ruth Woodard Chandler, 88, formerly of York Avenue in Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Transitional Health Services, following two years of declining health and a serious illness of three months. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. Monday at the church. At other times they will be at their respective homes. Born February 2, 1916, in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Kite Woodard and Maggie Brigman Woodard. She retired several years ago from the sewing room of Canon Mills Plant One. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she received the Woman of the Year Award in 1984 and was very active in Sunday School and the tape ministry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Lee Chandler, who died in March 1989. Survivors include three sons, Jerry Poole of Concord, Ronnie Chandler of Charlotte and Bob Chandler of Salisbury; one sister, Beatrice Williams of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
