Ruth Pennell Crook

Mrs. Ruth Smith Pennell Crook, 83, of 211 W. 18th Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, December 30, 2005, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2006, at Centerview Baptist Church. The Rev. Willie Rash will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. Born August 11, 1922, in Mooresville, she was the daughter of the late John J. Smith and Alice Teaster Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Centerview Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Phletus Donald Pennell, who died October 14, 1979. Survivors include her husband, Grady Francis Crook; a daughter, Linda Pennell Johnson and husband, Ronnie, of Kannapolis; a son, David Pennell and wife, Dean, of Spring City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, David Pennell, Jr. of China Grove, Roger Johnson of Orlando, Fla., Darryl Pennell, Byron Johnson and Ben Johnson, all of Kannapolis; and 10 great-grandchildren. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and one loved by all. Memorials may be sent to the Kannapolis Educational Foundation, 100 Denver Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or the Cabarrus County Educational Foundation, 4401 Old Airport Road, Concord, NC 28025.
