Mrs. Ruth Byrd Savage, 80, of 101 Crestwood Court, Kannapolis, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at CMC-NorthEast. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at Concord First Assembly. Pastor Forest Jones and Pastor Randy Thompson will officiate. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home. Born June 6, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, Ruth was the daughter of the late Admiral Byrd and Ruby Waters Byrd. She was a homemaker and retired from Ray Savage Chemical Corporation. She was an active member of Concord First Assembly, where she served as a Bible teacher at First Assembly Living Center. She formerly worked as a leader in the Junior High and Singles ministries. Ruth was a past president of the Miami, Florida Junior Women's Club. Ruth's unwavering love for the Lord and her beautiful smile will be remembered by many. Survivors include her husband, Ray Savage; two daughters, Susan Christensen and husband, Glenn, of Charlotte, Charlene West and husband, Lyle, of Asheville; two sons, Preston Savage III of Charlotte, and Steven Hess of Kannapolis; a sister, Shirley Pace of Charlotte; one brother, Joe Byrd of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four grandchildren, Dr. Jay West and wife, Emily, Dr. Jeffrey West and wife, Crystal, Emily Andersen and David Andersen; and two great-grandchildren, Lydia West and Jack West.
