Ruth Martin Steelman

Ruth Martin Steelman, 88, of London, Ohio, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at the home of her daughter in London. Born March 29, 1921 in Yadkin County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of John Frank and Gertrude Jane (Allgood) Martin. For 45 years, she was employed with Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC. Survivors are her daughter, Wanda (Ted) Henry of London; two grandsons, Joseph Duane (Anna) Henry and Jonathan Lee (Amy) Henry, both of London; two great-granddaughters, Haylee Jo and Josephine Madison Henry both of London; three sisters, Mary (John) Brock of Mocksville, NC, Betty (Jack) Barnes of King, NC, and Faye Hilton of High Point, NC; a brother-in-law, R.P. Martin of Mocksville, NC; three sisters-in-law, Frances and Anna Martin of Kannapolis, NC, and Phyllis Parkerson of Greensboro, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Jackson Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, with the Rev. Warner Bumgardner officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Courtney Baptist Church Cemetery where the Rev. Jim Martin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday in the Jackson Park Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joseph Clyde Steelman (who died August 28, 1972); a sister, Joan Martin; brothers Roger, Fred, and Paul Martin; and brother-in-law, Bill Hilton. Memorials may be made to Newport United Methodist Church or to Loving Care Hospice.
