Born July 1st, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William “Kerlee” Bumgarner and the late Margaret Green Bumgarner of Kannapolis. Shelby was a loving aunt, sister and friend. She never had children of her own, but was like a mother to her nieces and nephew. She was an instrumental part in the lives of her great nieces and nephews. She retired from Dixie Cleaners in 1998 after the death of her father, and devoted the remaining years of her life to caring for her mother.
Shelby was preceded in death by her brother, Alvin K. Bumgarner of Kannapolis. Survivors include her brother, Charles Wayne Bumgarner of Kannapolis; nieces, Jodie Bumgarner Rivers of Jacksonville NC and Deborah Bumgarner Lys of San Diego, CA; and nephew, Butch Bumgarner of Social Circle, GA.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Robin Miller Harrington and Vicki Miller of Kannapolis for all of the love and devotion to Shelby over these last years of her life. Vicki and Shelby were cousins but more like sisters in many ways. Robin treated Shelby with the love and care of a daughter, and the family will be forever grateful.
