On Thursday, October 1, 2026, our beloved mother and grandmother, Shirley D. Bergeron was received in The Arms of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Although we will miss her terribly, she is now made whole again, and will have to suffer no more.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pastor Mike Roper will officiate.
Shirley was born October 7, 1935 along with her twin brother, Boyd, in Honaker, VA. They were the youngest of 12 children. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Ball and Elizabeth Boyd Ball.
Shirley spent her life serving others. Whether it was a customer at Advance Auto Parts, where she was a delivery driver for years, at church, with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, or great-great grandchildren. She always had a smile, a kind word, or a prayer for everyone she met. Her granddaughter has often said that Shirley "had a direct line to The Lord," and there was evidence in that by the way she lived her life. No matter the situation, she always praised God for His many blessings and gifts. That's why we thank God now for letting her be ours for all this time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and true love, Richard V. Bergeron; husband, Richard W. Tayloe (d. 1979); three sisters; six brothers; granddaughter, Debra L. Ware; grandson, Aaron W. Lowder; and great-grandson, Nicholas Norris. It gives us great comfort to think of the reunion that was taking place when she arrived at The Gates of Heaven, with so many loved ones there to greet her.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Benford Boyd Ball and wife Maureen; daughters, Kimber T. Ware and husband Ronald, Pamela J. Alford and husband Donnie, and Jackie C. Lowder; and step-son, Richard V. "Ritchie" Bergeron, II. Also left to cherish her memory are her eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to recognize Shirley's youngest daughter, Kimber and her husband Ronald for caring for Shirley so selflessly in her final years, as well as her granddaughter, Shanna Miller. They made Shirley the center of their world for five years, and our family appreciates everything they did during that time. We would also like to recognize those who showed up regularly, whether by stopping in or simply a phone call just to show their support, or to let us know they were praying for us. The support meant everything to us through the difficult days, and we love you.
