A former math, English and music teacher, she liked helping her grandchildren with their schoolwork. She would make math sheets and flash cards, and every night would check all their homework. Just before Thanksgiving, she helped grandson John make a Thanksgiving turkey for a homework project that received an A . She loved to watch the grandchildren ice skate. Mrs. Solomon's hobby was crocheting. In October, her granddaughter Caroline did a book report on Laura Ingalls Wilder and Mrs. Solomon whipped up a hand sewn pinafore and crocheted shawl for her to wear.
