Thomas Lee Smith

Mr. Thomas Lee Smith, 87, a resident of Liberty Commons in Salisbury and formerly of Kannapolis, and The Meadows in Rockwell, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the nursing center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. His son, the Rev. Joe Smith, and the Rev. Charles Carver will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a grandson, Jeffrey Fowler, 112 Armistead Road, Rockwell. Born September 7, 1920 in Ruby, SC, he was a son of the late Thomas B. Smith and Hattie Jordan Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1983 from the No. 6 weave room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. Mr. Smith was a member of West Park Baptist Church in Rockwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Corbitt Smith; and a grandson, Christopher Fowler. Survivors include a daughter, Mamie S. Fowler of Rockwell; son, the Rev. Joe Smith and wife Brenda of Mocksville; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Fowler and wife Sheri of Rockwell, Brian Smith and wife Susan of Concord, Kelly Robinson and husband Davie of Kannapolis; and three great-granddaughters, Kaila Fowler, Katrina Fowler and Madison Robinson.
