Mr. Tommy Vernon Funderburk, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 4:00 pm Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Pastor Bob Young will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 pm Saturday in the Fellowship Hall at Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
Mr. Funderburk was born February 27, 1932 in Rowan County. He was a son of the late Robert Thomas Funderburk and Wilma Basinger Funderburk. Tommy graduated from Landis High School in 1950 and later graduated from Lenoir Rhyne where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He retired from banking after 37 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifelong active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Vernon Funderburk; three sisters, Mildred Funderburk, Dorothy Lear and Helen Davis; and four brothers, Robert Thomas Funderburk, Jr., Cecil Funderburk, Charles Funderburk and Herman Funderburk.
Mr. Funderburk is survived by his wife, Melba Morris Funderburk; son, Keith Funderburk and wife Elba of Spartanburg, SC; two step-sons, Jeff Wallace and wife Karen and Joel Wallace and wife Amanda; sister, Latrelle Hudspeth and husband Gerald of Midland; two grandchildren Mark Funderburk and Rebecca Funderburk; six step-grandchildren, Justin Wallace and wife Kara, Jonathan Wallace and wife Brooke, Alison Wallace, Ansley Wallace, Noah Veleke and Silas Veleke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
