Vera Pennell Safrit

Mrs. Vera Pennell Safrit, 91, of 3131 Irish Potato Road, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, January 17, 2008, in Charity Baptist Church at 2420 Brantley Road. Dr. R.J. Hammond and Rev. Gene Beaver will officiate. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mrs. Safrit. Mrs. Safrit was born May 3, 1916 in Alexander County, NC. She was a daughter of the late Artie Franklin Pennell and Fannie Actrice Pennell. She was retired from the Washcloth Department of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church from its beginning where she was very active. Mrs. Safrit was a very loving mother and grandmother. Vera's love of music was evident through out her life as she served the Lord at Royal Oaks Baptist Church and Skyland Baptist Church prior to joining Charity. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrill R. Safrit, in 1991; daughter, Mitzi Walker; and her sister, Lorene Price. Mrs. Safrit is survived by two daughters, Kathy Casper of Concord and Pam Petrea and husband, Mike, of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, James R. Hartsell and wife, Janet, Leslie A. Fox and husband, David, Bradley Walker and wife, Tanaz, Matthew Walker, Amanda Tysinger, Marty Todd and wife, Shannon; seven great-grandchildren, Christy Walker, Misty Fox, Kayla Todd, Austin and Ethan Todd, Cole Walker, Andrew Walker, Jay Hartsell; one great-great-grandchild, Jermiah Walker; four step-grandchildren, Mark Casper, Michelle Jessop and husband, Jon, Kym Jessop and husband, Russell, B.J. Tevepaugh and wife, Mandy; and eleven step-great-grandchildren. The family of Mrs. Safrit would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their loving care.
