Vera Allene Smith

Mrs. Vera Allene Smith, 92, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center, and formerly of Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Barnhill and the Rev. Ralph Adams will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at the home of a son, Hershel Smith, 6134 Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis. Born October 26, 1916 in Royston, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Lee Fowler and Estie Jordan Fowler. She was a member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Smith retired several years ago from the No. 4 Weave Room of Cannon Mills, Plant 4 in Kannapolis. Survivors include two sons, Nelson Smith and wife, Donna, of Hickory, Hershel Smith and wife, Betty, of Kannapolis; four sisters, Joyce Parson and Venetia Steele, both of Kannapolis, Irelle Wilkinson of Mooresville and Virginia Stickler of Rockwell; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
