Viola Mae Haynes

Mrs. Viola Mae Williams Haynes, 85, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis, and formerly of Easy Street in Concord, was promoted to glory, Sunday, January 1, 2006, at the nursing center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Forbis Kivett and the Rev. Wayne Preusz will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her daughter, Linda Brown, 103 Crestwood Court, Kannapolis. Born October 6, 1920, in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Fred Williams and Minnie Oates Williams. She retired several years ago from the spinning room of Cannon Mills Plant Four. Mrs. Haynes was a member of First Wesleyan Church where she was a member of the Best Years Fellowship, Friendly Sunday School Class, and previously served as a Sunday school teacher to the Beginners and Juniors. She was also a Brownie Scout leader and was active in the YMCA for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry "Bill" Haynes, who died March 24, 2000. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lee Brown and husband, James, of Kannapolis; a sister, Mildred Pate of Concord; four grandchildren, Lorrie Bostic of Anderson, SC, Christina McCurry of Concord, Keith Sorrow of Granite Falls and Fred Sorrow of Colloden, WV; and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of Big Elm Nursing Center, for the love and care shown to Viola.
