Mrs. Virginia Dare Cook Poston, 85, formerly of Winecoff School Road, died Monday, August 31, 2009, at Genesis HealthCare of Salisbury. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. Rev. Brenda Newman will officiate. The body will lie in-state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm tonight at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Paul Hill, 304 Tony's Lane, Salisbury. Mrs. Poston was born December 24, 1923 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Samuel William Cook and Kate Linker Cook. She had worked as a lab technician for Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, where she received her nursing degree. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ada Dayvault Circle and the XYZ Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Poston, July 1992; son, Richard Hill; two sisters, Nell Hopkins and Ellsworth Barnhardt; and a brother, S.W. Cook, Jr. Mrs. Poston is survived by two sons, Paul Hill, Sr. wife, Dianne and William "Will" Hill wife, Janet, all of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Jennifer Ridgell, Robbie Hill and Paul Hill, Jr.; three step-grandchildren, Crystal Gray, Patricia Hand, and Daniel Wyrick; five great grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Building Fund, 301 Mt. Olivet Road, Concord, NC 28025 in memory of Virginia.
