Virginia Witmore Hill Rainwater

Mrs. Virginia Witmore Hill Rainwater, 93, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Marshville City Cemetery. Rev. Larry Watts will officiate.

Mrs. Rainwater was born October 20, 1923 in Wingate, NC. She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Witmore and Altha Mae Griffin Witmore. She retired for Cabarrus Memorial Hospital (now CHS-NorthEast) where she worked in the Telecommunications Department as a telephone operator. She was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, formerly worked with the senior citizens for 12 years. She was also the Outreach Leader and Secretary for her Sunday school class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Ralph Hill; second husband, Bennie “B.W.” Rainwater, Sr.; and three sisters and six brothers.

Mrs. Rainwater is survived by two daughters, Brenda Rodgers and husband Dave of Murrells Inlet, SC and Cynthia Mashburn and husband Keith of Denver, NC; son, William Hill and wife Sandra of Indian Land, SC; six grandchildren, Randy Purser, John Purser, Robin Tiller, Ashley Adorno, Jennifer Wyatt and Jason Hill; 11 great grandchildren; and a large number of wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Plantation Estates for their never-ending love, caring and support for Virginia during her time with them.
